Of the many thousand "camps" or enclosures, consisting of earthen walls, there are very few whose plan we can trace with certainty, and ascertain the date of construction and the builder's name. Of these even, some have grown out of recognition by subsequent improve- ment, and few indeed remain as simple camps.
