A. aceris. Leigh. One specimen only, 1860, at rest on the
trunk of an elm.
A. rumicis. Leigh; common at "sugar," in the lanes.
Diloba caeruleocephala. Common in the larval stage.
Leucania conigera and L. lithargyria. Common in gardens
and at the Railway ditch.
L. obsoleta. Railway ditch; at "sugar" on posts and rushes.
L. comma. Common in gardens and at the Railway ditch.
L. straminea. At "sugar," and by "mothing" at the Railway
ditch and Pottery. The larvae may be found on the reeds in May;
but are very subject to ichneumons.
L. impura and L. pallens. Common everywhere.
Calamia phragmitidis. Railway ditch and Pottery; not rare.
Senta maritima. Railway ditch. By "mothing" and at
"sugar." In addition to the type, we have captured the varieties
wismariensis and nigrostriata, but have not met with var. bipunctata.
Tapinostola fulva. Eastwood ; in swampy places outside the
woods.
Nonagria geminipuncta and N. arundinis. Railway ditch.
Common; var. fraterna of the latter also occurs.
N. lutosa. Railway ditch. Mr. Pryer and I only searched for
this once, in 1870, and three specimens were the result. I have not
been for it since.
Hydroecia nictitans and H. micacea. Leigh; common. The
former abundant at "sugar" at the Railway ditch.
Axylia putris. Leigh ; not common.
Xylophasia rurea, X. lithoxylea, and X. monoglypha.
Abundant everywhere.
Neuria reticulata. Eastwood ; one at "sugar" in the lane just
outside the wood.
Cerigo matura. Leigh ; common on Slopes and Sea-wall.
Luperina testacea. Leigh; abundant.
Mamestra abjecta. Railway ditch; common at "sugar" in
1869 and 1870, but scarcer in later years.
M. sordida and E. brassicae. Leigh and Eastwood. Both
common.
Apamea basilinea and A. gemina. Railway ditch; common.
A. unanimus and A. leucostigma. Railway ditch; at
"sugar ;" rare.
A. didyma. Common.
