This appears in most cases singly, or two of them are placed opposite each other, but in the case of figs. 3a and 3b, two, or perhaps more, of these cuts are placed end to end along the front of the bone. This scooped cut may, therefore, be taken to be the characteristic which determines this class of object, and it may fairly be assumed that this was the functional portion.
