ESSEX has made comparatively few contributions to Eocene geology, though rocks of that age cover a considerable area, in the county. The Bagshot Beds of the area have recently been re-examined, and have been shown to present features of interest. In the course of that work their relation to the London Clay was studied at several localities ; the purpose of the present note is to describe a series of sections on the western edge of the Rayleigh Hills, where this relation is clearly seen.
