BOOK NOTICE.

This handbook, which was specially prepared for the Congress of the
South-Eastern Union of Scientific Societies held at Colchester in June
last, contains eleven articles on the Geology, Pre-history, Botany and
Zoology of the County, written by varions members of the Essex Field
Club and others, and is an attempt to focus the information now available
in these several realms of nature, so far as our county is concerned.
It offers a valuable and welcome epitome of the work accomplished
in each department, and is consequently essential to students working in
any of the various subjects described : moreover, no Essex book-collector,
however non-scientific, can afford to pass over this important addition to
the scientific literature of the county.
SPECIAL NOTICE.
Our Member, Mr. William E. Glegg, F.Z.S., M.B.O.U., is preparing
for publication by the Club, as one of its "Special Memoirs," an up-to-date
account of the Birds of the County, and will be grateful for any records
