From the above tables, which are taken from the official plans kindly
furnished by Mr. A. P. Howell, A.M.I.C.E., the Engineer and Surveyor
to the Leyton U.D. Council, it will be seen that, disregarding the artificial
material which has been dumped upon the original marsh-surface, the
Recent Alluvium of the Lea at these points is nowhere more than 61/2 feet
in thickness, and is immediately underlain by Pleistocene Valley Gravel
and Brickearth, which is at least 15 feet thick (exposed).
