THE ESSEX FIELD CLUB. 257 At the conclusion of Mr. Swinton's demonstration, the Hon. Secretary exhibited some relics of Sir Antonio Brady belonging to the Stratford Museum, including a photograph of Sir Antonio, a holograph letter from him, and a copy of the bound Catalogue of his Collection dated 1874, the latter of which had been presented to the Club by Lady Brady in 1883. The President thanked our Conductor in the name of the Club for his most interesting demonstration, and Mr. Swinton replied. The party then dispersed to examine other objects in the Museum. ORDINARY MEETING (651ST MEETING). SATURDAY, 26TH JANUARY, 1929. This meeting was held in the Physics Lecture Theatre of the Municipal College, Romford Road, Stratford, at 3 o'clock on the above afternoon, the President, Mr. D. J. Scourfield, I.S.O., F.L.S., etc., being in the chair. Fifty-seven members and visitors attended. Miss Freda B. Uffelmann, B.Sc., of 57, Wards Road East, Seven Kings, Ilford, and Mr. Frederick W. Allen, of 24, South Road, Mill Park, Chadwell Heath, were elected members of the Club. Mr. Ross reported the occurrence in the Chingford district of Epping Forest of a puzzling pied finch which he regarded as an albinistic form of Chaffinch. Miss Hibbert-Ware and Mr. Glegg, each of whom had seen the bird, agreed with this identification. Mr. Paulson exhibited a brilliant scarlet lichen (a species of Physcia) from West Greenland, as an example of the brilliant hues exhibited by Arctic and High-Alpine lichens. The President showed some living Tardigrades, or "Water-Bears," under the microscope, and urged the desirability of some member of the Club taking up the systematic study of this neglected group of animals. Mr. Glegg exhibited and presented to the Stratford Museum pellets of Marsh Harrier and of Montagu's Harrier, from Central Friesland. Thanks were accorded to the several donors and exhibitors. The President then called upon Mrs. A. R. Hatley, B.Sc, F.R.G.S., who read a paper on "The Regional Survey of Hatfield Broad Oak," which she illustrated by numerous maps, diagrams, photographs, pen-and-ink sketches and drawings, most of them being her own work. A curious plait of rivett-wheat, surmounted by the cars, and made to celebrate an unusually good harvest, was also exhibited and kindly presented by Mrs. Hatley to the Museum. A discussion followed the reading of this interesting communication, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs. Hatley for her paper. ORDINARY MEETING (652ND MEETING). SATURDAY, 23RD FEBRUARY, 1929. This meeting was held as usual in the Physics Lecture Theatre of the Municipal College, Romford Road, Stratford, with the President in the chair.
