THE ESSEX FIELD CLUB. 263 ANNUAL MEETING (654TH MEETING) and ORDINARY MEETING (655TH MEETING). SATURDAY, 23RD MARCH, 1920. These meetings were held in the Physics Lecture Theatre of the Municipal College, Romford Road, Stratford, on the above afternoon, the President, Mr. D. J. Scourfield, I.S.O., F.L.S., etc., being in the chair. Forty-five members attended. The following ladies and gentlemen were elected members of the Club :— Mrs. A. E. Crouch, of Thornhill, 204, Hermon Hill, South Woodford, E.18 ; Miss Lily J. Calder, of 21, Seagry Road, Wanstead, E.11 ; Miss Edith E. Davies, of 57, Murchison Road, Leyton, E.10 ; Miss N. M. Richardson, of 40, Chadwick Road, Leytonstone, E.11 ; Mr. William C. Harris, F.R.M.S., of Tayside, Mill Park, Hornchurch ; Mr. C. A. Newton, F.R.M.S., of 4, Lansdown Road, Seven Kings ; Mr. J. E. Samuel, of 294. Central Park Road, East Ham, E.6 ; Mr. C. S. Todd, of 55, Forest Drive West, Leytonstone, E.11. The Curator exhibited a further series of 21 photographs of street views in West Ham, taken about 1905 before street-widenings and improvements and copied from official photographs. He also exhibited a young female Heron, which had been found dead from starvation at Felsted during the late Arctic weather : Mr. J. H. Owen had presented the bird in the flesh to the Museum. Apropos of this exhibit, Mr. Glegg made some interesting remarks on the food of herons. The business of the Annual Meeting was then proceeded with. The minutes of the last Annual Meeting were read and confirmed. The Council's report for 1928 was read by the Hon. Secretary, and, on the motion of Mr. Price, seconded by Mr. Campbell, was received and adopted nem. con. A recommendation by the Council, viz. :— " The Council recommends to the Annual Meeting that, in view of " the unduly large and increasing size of the Council in proportion " to the total number of members, any vacancies thereon, over and " above those caused by the retirement of members in rotation, shall " remain unfilled for the present," was, on the motion of Dr. Batteson, seconded by Mr. Batchelor, adopted without dissent. The Hon. Treasurer presented his Statement of the Club's accounts for 192S and formally moved its adoption. Mr. Barns, in seconding, eulogized Mr. Avery's admirable handling of the Club's finances, a sentiment which was warmly acclaimed by the meeting, the motion being carried unanimously. A ballot was taken for the new members of Council, the President appointing Mr. Campbell and Mrs. Whitwell scrutineers. The result of the ballot was as under :— Mr. W. E. Glegg polled 42 votes. Mr. F. W. Thorrington polled 39 votes.
