REPORT OF THE COUNCIL. 113 Six hundred and sixty two items have been added to the Pictorial Survey collection during the year, which now totals 8741 views, mounted in 58 albums; while the Library has been enriched by 111 volumes, making a total of 6390 bound volumes, 78 vols. having been bound during the year. In this connection, your Council cannot hide its disappointment that so few members avail themselves of the privilege of borrowing books for home-reading, only 181 volumes having been issued during the period under review. In conclusion, your Council regrets that, no doubt because of the financial depression through which the country, and all of us, are still passing, our Club, in common with other societies, has lately suffered an exceptional number of resignations, in addition to the inevitable loss of old members by death. The Council asks for the loyal and active co-operation of individual members in making good this unfortunate wastage by the speedy introduction of new members, in order that the manifold activities of our Club may be maintained without interruption or diminution. TRIAL BORINGS AT STRATFORD. In connection with the River Lea Flood Relief Works now being carried out jointly by the Lee Conservancy Board and the West Ham Corporation, the Engineer, Mr. W. Lionel Jenkins, M.A., M.Inst.C.E., has kindly furnished the official particulars of eight trial boreholes put down in the Lea Valley between Bow and Stratford. From these data the following sections have been compiled:— Borehole No. i. Mill Meads; near the Abbey Mills, Stratford. Surface 5.67 ft. above O.D. Water level 10 ft. down.
