ORDINARY MEETING (785TH MEETING). SATURDAY, 29TH JANUARY, 1938. This meeting was held, as usual, in the Physics Lecture Theatre of the Municipal College, Romford Road, Stratford, with Mr. John Ramsbottom, O.B.E., Pres.L.S., etc.. President, in the chair. 44 members attended. Miss Winifred Kaye, of 31, Poppleton Road, Leytonstone, E.11, and Mr. Alfred J. Saban, of 41, Rainsford Way, Romford, were elected members of the club. Mr. F. J. Lambert exhibited, under a microscope, several "hydra- tubae" of Aurella (some of them strobilating), also a small Plaice (Pleuro- nectes platessa) and some living marine molluscs from Leigh-on-Sea. Mr. J. Ross exhibited Physarum contextum Pers., a mycetozoan found by him in Epping Forest on January 19th inst. on maple-leaf, this being the first record of this species for Essex: the specimen, which had been confirmed and mounted by Miss Lister, was presented to the Stratford Museum collection. Mr. H. Main showed photographs and botanical specimens from Cali- fornia, chiefly illustrating the gigantic Sequoias of that region. Mr. D. J. Scourfield exhibited a living water-bear (Macrobiotus, sp.) from an Epping Forest pond. The Curator showed twenty-eight Essex prints, part of the bequest of our late member, Mr. H. Mothersole. He also exhibited, and commended, the just-published Report by Miss A. Hibbert-Ware on the Food of the Little Owl. The President spoke appreciatively of the author's patient research and, on his motion, it was unanimously agreed to send a letter of warm appreciation of her work to Miss Hibbert-Ware. The President called upon Mr. N. H. Howes, who gave a lecture on "A Brackish-Water Community near Southend," which he illustrated by lantern photographs and diagrams. A discussion followed in which the President, Dr. Jane, Messrs. Lambert, Scourfield, Heeley, Harley and Thompson took part : Mr. Howes replied to the points raised and was accorded the hearty thanks of the meeting, which was declared at an end at 4.45 o'clock. In view of the approaching Annual Meeting, nominations were made as under: Mrs. Hatley, Miss Dofort and Mr. Thorrington were due to retire from the Council in rotation: Mr. Thorrington, being now resident in Devon-
