THE SPIDERS OF ESSEX 59 SALTICIDAE Philodromus constellalus Sim. Neon valentulus Falc. * Philodromus albovittata Bos. * Thanatus arenarius Thor. THOMISIDAE DRASSIDAE *Oxyptila maculosa sp. n. *Echemus rhenanus Bertk. Xysticus bifasciatus K. Clubiona caerulescens * Philodromus reussii Bos. Agroeca brunnea Bl. *Philodromus collinus K. Agroeca proxima Cb. Besides these there were seven species already recorded in Smith's Epping list:— Heliophanus cupreus Wk. Drassus blackwallii Thor. Micaria pulicaria Sund. Clubiona corticalis Wk. Chiracanthium lapidicolens Sim. Zora spinimana Sund. Harpactes hombergii Scop. All these were fairly common and bring up the total of Essex spiders which I can personally vouch for to 194. There still remain eleven Epping spiders which I have not seen in the county, nine on Smith's list,- the Epping Atypus which every- body knows about, and Cicurina cinerea Panz., recorded by Cambridge from "between Chingford and High Beach" in 1907. That gives us a gross total of 205, which is only about thirty-six per cent of the whole number of British species as at present ascertained.
