148 THE ESSEX NATURALIST The President showed the fibrous base of the leaf of a Coconut Palm from West Africa. It resembled a sheet of woven textile material. The Curator showed a set of lithographic views of the Epping Forest district, published in 1827 and, for comparison therewith, some recent photographs of similar scenes. ORDINARY MEETING (884th Meeting) SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 28TH, 1948 This meeting was held at the West Ham Municipal College at 3 p.m. with the President, Dr. Frank W. Jane, in the chair. Thirty-four members and friends were present. Mrs. E. Long, of "Windways," Milton Road, Lawford, near Manning- tree, was elected a member. Dr. R. Coles gave a lecture on "Changes in the Essex Forest," which he illustrated by a number of lantern diagrams and maps. Several members joined in the subsequent discussion and a vote of thanks to the lecturer was given by acclamation. Mr. Waller exhibited and presented to the Museum a fine confluent specimen of the pyrenomycetous fungus, Daldinia concentrica, from an Ash tree in Wanstead Park. Mr. Ross exhibited and described some 19 species of Mycetozoa which were among the more interesting of those found by him in Epping Forest during the past year. The Curator showed a series of views of West Ham from the Pictorial Survey collection. The President exhibited a large piece of bark-cloth made of the bast fibres of an African tree of the Mulberry family. The Hon. Secretary announced that, by special request, Dr. Frank W. Jane would allow the Council to nominate him for re-election as President at the forthcoming annual meeting. Mr. Ross wished to retire from the office of Curator of the Epping Forest Museum and the Council nominated Mr. Bernard Ward to fill the vacancy. The Council nominated Mr. C. Bignell Pratt as Editor and the existing Treasurer, Secretary, Librarian and Excursions Secretary for re-election to their respective offices. No further nominations for officers were made. On account of war-time conditions all the other members of Council were due to retire and nominations to fill the vacancies were now invited. The following eight nominations were made:— Dr. R. The President expressed the Club's appreciation of the services of Mr. Ross as Curator of the Epping Forest Museum during the last 15 years and those present endorsed his remarks by warm applause. Mrs. Barnes, Vice-Chairman of the West Ham Education Committee, who was present by invitation, was welcomed by the President. She ex- pressed her great interest in the Club and its Museum and thanked the Club for inviting her to attend the meeting.
