On concluding his address, the President suggested that questions might be asked and several members took advantage of his suggestion. VISIT TO WALTHAMSTOW RESERVOIRS (886th Meeting) SATURDAY, APRIL 24TH, 1948 Some 28 members met in bright sunshine outside St. James's Street Station, Walthamstow, and made their way along Copper Mill Lane to the reservoirs. Here they were met by Mr. W. A. Wright of the London Natural History Society. A good view was obtained of the flourishing heronry on an island in one of the reservoirs. Mr. Wright, who had counted them during the morning, reported 49 nests in use this season. Shoveler Duck, seen recently here, had apparently departed, but Tufted Duck, Common Pochard, Coot and some of the spring migrants including Swallow and House-Martin, were observed. Particular pleasure was taken in watching Great Crested Grebe, several of these birds were seen and the party was able to get within a few feet of a nest built at the edge of the water. The eggs were not visible because the bird had, as is her habit, covered them with weed as she left the nest. She was seen swimming and diving nearby.
