Middle-barred Minor (Procus fasciuncula). From June 13 to August; thirteen from Colchester and Weeley. Cloaked Minor (Procus furuncula). From August 2 onwards; few from Colchester and Weeley; abundant at West Mersea. Small Angle Shades (Euplexia lucipara). From June 9 to July; twenty from Colchester and Weeley. Angle Shades (Phlogophora meticulosa). From September 28 to October; six from Colchester, Little Clacton and Weeley. Straw Underwing (Thalpophila matura). One from Weeley on August 20. Treble Lines (Meristis trigrammica). From June 15 to July; seven from Little Clacton and Weeley. Mottled Rustic (Caradrina morpheus). The Uncertain (Caradrina alcines). The Rustic (Caradrina blanda). Pale Mottled Willow (Caradrina clavipalpis): we found the last four species difficult to distinguish in the field. Collectively they are abundant from June 15 to August in Colchester and Weeley. Rosy Rustic (Gortyna micacea). From September 25 to October; six from Weeley. Frosted Orange (Gortyna flavago). From September 28 to October; one each from Halstead and Weeley. Lesser-spotted Pinion (Cosmia, affinis). From August 15 to September; one each from Colchester and Weeley. Dun-bar (Cosmia trapezina). From July 20 to August; eleven from Colchester and Weeley. Marbled White Spot (Lithacoddia fasciana). One reported from Witham in 1962. Green Silver Lines (Bena fagaria). One from Little Clacton in June. Red Underwing (Catocala nupta). From August to September; one each from East Mersea, Great Bentley, Thorpe and Weeley; larva found at Colchester. Mother Shipton (Euclidimera mi). From June 6 onwards; ten from Little Clacton and Weeley. Golden Plusia (Polychrisia moneta). From June 27 to July; five from Colchester and Weeley. Burnished Brass (Plusia chrysitis). From July 15 to August; twentv-five from Colchester and Weeley. Plain Golden Y (Plusia jota). From June 22 to July; common from Little Clacton and Weeley. Silver Y (Plusia gamma). From May 25 to October, mainly in the last two months of this range; abundant and wide- spread. The Spectacle (Unca triplasia). From June 10 to September; common from Colchester, Layer Breton and Weeley.
