Garden Tiger (Arctia caja). From July 25 to August; ten from
Colchester, East Mersea, Halstead, Great Bentley, Stanway,
Walton, Wivenhoe and Weeley, larvae from Colchester
and Stanway.
Cream-spot Tiger (Arctia villica). One from Weeley on June 13;
also reported from Walton; larva from Stanway.
Cinnabar (Callimorpha jacobaea). From June 9 to July; one
each from Colchester, East Mersea, Fingringhoe, Walton
and Weeley; larvae from Weeley.
Geometridae
March Moth (Alsophila aescularia). One from Little Clacton on
April 14.
Common Emerald (Hemithea aestivaria). From July 5 onwards;
common from Colchester, Little Clacton and Weeley.
Small Emerald (Hemistola immaculata). Eight from Colchester
in July.
Little Emerald (Jodis lactearia). From June to July; six from
Colchester, Little Clacton and Weeley.
Blood-vein (Calothysanis ornata). From June 10 to September;
common at Bures Hamlet, Colchester, Halstead, Little
Clacton and Weeley.
Small Blood-vein (Scopula imitaria). From July 16 to August;
common at Ardleigh and Weeley.
Dwarf Cream Wave (Sterrha interjecta). From June 30 to
August; sixteen from Colchester and Weeley.
Single-dotted Wave (Sterrha dimidiata). From July 10 onwards;
seven from Colchester.
Small Dusty Wave (Sterrha seriata). Ten from Colchester in July.
Riband Wave (Sterrha aversata). From June 30 to August;
abundant at Colchester, Little Clacton and Weeley; the
typical dark-banded form was common, but found in
smaller numbers than the unhanded form.
Treble Brown Spot (Sterrha trigeminata). From June 16 to
September; fourteen from Colchester and Weeley.
Small Scallop (Sterrha emarginata). From July 25 to August;
four from Bures Hamlet and Weeley.
Silver-ground Carpet (Xanthorhoe montanata). From June 7 to
July; common at Bures Hamlet, Colchester and Weeley.
Garden Carpet (Xanthorhoe fluctuata). From April 16 to
September; abundant during each month from May on-
wards; Ardleigh, Colchester, Clacton, Weeley and Witham.
Dark-barred Twin-spot Carpet (Xanthorhoe ferrugata). From
May 29 to September; abundant at Bures Hamlet, Col-
chester, Weeley and Witham.
Red Twin-spot Carpet (Xanthorhoe spadicearia). From April 14
to September; common at Colchester and Weeley.
Shaded Broad-bar (Ortholitha chenopodiata). From July 27 to
August; locally abundant at Thorpe and Weeley.
