The last Essex record for this grass was by C. Parsons of North Shoebury Hall, c. 1839, who had many records from Foulness Island. His sheet is not marked but it is quite possible that it came from the same area. Vulpia membranacea (L.) Dum. Dune Fescue. St. Osyth Beach, 11; railway sidings, Parkeston, 23. V. myuros (L.) C. C. Gmel. Rat's-tail Fescue. Abundant at North Weald Station, 40; Cutlers Green, 52, 53. S.T.J., J.-W. Sasa senanensis Bamboo. Determined by J. E. Lousley. I put in this record as it was seen in flower last year in several places, the two confirmed records being Warley Place, 59, and Mount Quarter, Gaynes Park, 40. This is unusual as Dr Hubbard tells us in his Pelican Book on Grasses that different species have a definite life cycle; they only flower and produce seed at periods ranging from 15 to 120 years, then the whole plant dies. Hypericaceae Hypericum androsaemum L. Tutsan. Berechurch, Friday Wood, 92; top of denehole, Grays, 67.
