Mostly found on the sand and gravel areas in hedgerows and among leaf-litter, mosses and brick rubble, but also among plant roots in the sandy area near the County Youth Camp site. Family Vertiginidae Columella edentula (Draparnaud). Occasionally found in the soil and leaf-litter of dense hedgerows between fields on the drained marsh and in the sandy area near the Youth Camp site. Vertigo pygmaea (Draparnaud). Common in the hedgerows and ditches and on sand near the Youth Camp site. Lauria cylindracea (da Costa). One record only, of a shell from a dry ditch near Barrow Hill. Family Valloniidae Vallonia pulchella (Muller). Common in ditches and hedgerows in most parts of the island. Family Clausiliidae Clausilia bidentata (Strom.). Common in hedgerows particularly on the drained marsh and among plant roots on some of the older seawalls. Family Helicidae Cepaea hortensis Muller. Generally distributed but found mainly on sea walls and in hedgerows. Cepaea nemoralis L. Widely distributed, in hedgerows, gardens and on the sea walls. More common than C. hortensis. The following band formulae were found among the speci- mens collected: —12345, (123) (45), 00345, 00300, 00000. Helix aspersa Muller. Common and widespread in hedgerows and gardens. Trichia striolata (C. Pfeiffer). On banks and sea walls and in hedgerows and meadows. Trichia hispida (L.). With T. striolata but more common. Monacha cantiana (Montagu). Occasionally found on banks and in hedgerows. Helicella caperata (Montagu). Very common in most localities; in hedgerows, on sea walls and banks and on the sandy ground near the Youth Camp site. Family Endodontidae Discus rotundatus (Muller). Occasional in hedgerows, probably common. Family Arionidae Arion hortensis Ferussac. Common in gardens and along hedge- rows and ditches.
