26 THE ESSEX NATURALIST Class COPEPODA Order Eucopepoda Calanidae Calamus finmarchicus (Gunnerus) Two adults and three copepodites were recorded from samples of the Blackwater plankton. The species is more common sea- wards of the Knoll and is generally found in some numbers at the Barrow Deeps light vessel (1960 and 1961). PARACALANIDAE Paracalanus parvus (Claus) Rare in the Blackwater. Collected in plankton samples from the area of the Barrier Wall at Bradwell in August and November 1962 and in February and September 1963. PSEUDOCALANIDAE Pseudocalanus elongatus Boeck Rare in the Blackwater. Occurring in the area of the Barrier Wall at Bradwell in March, April and December 1962, and generally throughout 1963. Centropagidae Centropages hamatus (Lilljeborg) Not common in the Blackwater plankton. Occurred from April to November, with a peak in August 1962 and from June to November, with a peak in July-August in 1963. Isias clavipes Boeck Of rare occurrence in the Blackwater plankton. Temoridae Temora longicornis (O. F. Muller) Occurring in plankton samples taken at the Barrier Wall, Bradwell, April to December, with a peak in June 1962, and April to November, with a peak in April-May 1963. Eurytemora hirundoides (Nordqvist) Two records only from plankton samples taken at the Barrier Wall, Bradwell; December 1962 and May 1963. Pontellidae Labidocera wollastoni (Lubbock) One only, recorded from a plankton sample taken in the area of the Barrier Wall at Bradwell on 13.6.1960. Parapontellidae Parapontella brevicornis (Lubbock) Rare in the Blackwater plankton; July and September 1962 and in 1963.
