Danbury Common, June 4. Seven members were present at
this meeting; again a fine and warm day. Birds seen or heard
were:—Common Whitethroat, Willow Warbler, Song Thrush,
Yellow Hammer, Reed Bunting, Blackcap, Chaffinch, Jay,
Robin, Dunnock, Skylark, Turtle Dove, Linnet, Starling, Carrion
Crow, Magpie, Bullfinch, Greenfinch, House Martin, Swallow,
Swift, Garden Warbler, Tree Pipit, Willow Tit, Coal Tit, Jackdaw.
No Red-Backed Shrikes were seen, and it was noticed that there
were few Tree Pipits.
Curtis Mill Green, June f8. Five members attended this
meeting. Birds seen or heard were:—Common Whitethroat,
Skylark, Reed Bunting, Yellow Hammer, Linnet, Willow
Warbler, Bullfinch, Robin, Chaffinch, Tree Sparrow, Greenfinch,
Dunnock, Turtle Dove, Starling, Chiffchaff, Long-tailed Tit, Jay,
Blackcap, Great Tit, Lesser Whitethroat, Jackdaw, Spotted Fly-
catcher, Rook, Green Woodpecker, Goldfinch, Pheasant, Pied
Wagtail, Magpie, Tawny Owl, Mistle Thrush, Willow Tit.
Galleywood Common, July 2. Eight members were present.
Birds seen or heard: —Common Whitethroat, Lesser Whitethroat,
Willow Warbler, Blackcap, Robin, Great Tit, Coal Tit, Willow
Tit, Yellow Hammer, Reed Bunting, Linnet, Collared Dove,
Goldfinch, Greenfinch, Blackbird, Song Thrush, Chiffchaff,
Dunnock, House Sparrow, Swallow, House Martin, Wren, Carrion
Crow, Rook, Bullfinch, Lapwing, Magpie, Heron, Pheasant,
Starling. This area will be visited again in 1968 to compare
records.
Hylands Park, Chelmsford, July 22. This was attended by 9
members. Hyland Park is now owned by the Borough of
Chelmsford and is an interesting area of open parkland and fine
woods. An area well worth preserving both for its plants and
birds. The day was fine, but there was a cool breeze. Few birds
were heard singing so members had to rely on being able to see
and identify birds by sight rather than song. Birds seen were: —
Great Tit, Blue Tit, Coal Tit, Wren, Wood Pigeon, Song Thrush,
Mistle Thrush, Blackbird, Dunnock, Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Robin,
Heron, Swallow, House Martin, Rook, House Sparrow, Tree
Sparrow, Pied Wagtail, Black-headed Gull. Moorhen, Chaffinch,
Carrion Crow.
Mill Green, Highwoods, Fryerning, September 2. Five
members attended this meeting. The weather was fine and
sunny. Birds seen : —Wood Pigeon, House Martin, Linnet, Wren,
Robin, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Swallow, House Sparrow, Blackbird,
Yellow Hammer, Dunnock, Greenfinch, Song Thrush, Bullfinch,
Starling, Jay, Willow Warbler, Common Whitethroat, Reed
Bunting, Nuthatch, Tree Creeper, Long-tailed Tit, Green Wood-
pecker, Willow Tit.
