FUNGI OF EPPING FOREST: ASCOMYCETES 331 The Fungi of Epping Forest Part 2. ASCOMYCETES By Peter Wilberforce This tentative list of Ascomycetes for Epping Forest has been prepared with great trepidation. In no case do voucher specimens exist in the possession of a member of the Essex Field Club. This is particularly unfortunate as so many of the records refer to unusual and often rare species. It is regretably only too apparent that if one takes away Mr Graddon's records ("G" in the list) then very little remains. In the circumstances all that could be done was to accept the majority of the records, bring the nomenclature up to date and to give a simple list together with the number of times a species has been recorded. May I put in a plea for much more collecting of Ascomycetes, especially the Pyrenomycetes. A voucher specimen of finds should always be kept. In this way later workers can check, and bring up to date older records. A mere list of names is of interest, but only when names are coupled to a specimen are they of real scientific value. Nomenclature has been considerably revised; reference having been made to the following papers. Ainsworth, G. C. and Bisby, G. R. 1961 "A Dictionary of the fungi" Pub. C. M. I. Bisby, G.
