8 THE ESSEX NATURALIST cub, born probably from an erythristic sow and a normal coloured boar, was clearly not a true albino having some pigmentation and not having pink eyes. Since 1967 the Ingatestone setts be- came disturbed and no further erythristic individuals have been seen in this locality. Sandy coloured individuals have also been seen at various setts and as suggested by Neal (1948), these are thought to be intermediate colour varieties between the albino and normal forms. Acknowledgements Apart from the help received from the previous recorders, D. R. Scott and W. W. Page, I am indebted to the many landowners, naturalists, gamekeepers, and others who have supplied informa- tion and assisted in field work.
