This species, together with Caloplaca citrina, C. decipiens, C. saxicola, Candelariella medians, Lecanora dispersa, Physcia spp., etc. form the union Caloplacetum heppianae, especially on the horizontal tops of the limestone headstones in churchyards. C. holocarpa (Hoffm.) Wade Common on asbestos-cement, concrete and mortar. 51/68, 69, 78. Although found on man-made substrates throughout the area, I have not found this species on limestone. C. saxicola (Hoffm.) Nordin Scarce on limestone and concrete. 51/69, 79 Limestone gravestones in the churchyards of All Saints', Hutton (1972, PME-B) and of St Mary's, Runwell (1974, PME-B). Candelariella aurella (Hoffm.) Zahlbr. Common on concrete and asbestos-cement; rare on limestone, 51/68, 69, 78, 79. This species, together with Lecanora dispersa, are frequently the first colonisers of man-made calcareous substrates, and often the only ones in the centres of the urbanised areas. C. medians (Nyl.) A.L. Sm. Occasional on limestone. 51/69, 79.
