Here he was so indefatigable in the discharge of his onerous duties that he was made head of the Contract Office, and Registrar of Public Securities in 1854 ; subsequently he assisted very materially in reorganising that office, and was appointed the first Superintendent of the new Purchase and Contract Department. He married in 1837 Maria, the daughter of the late George Kilner, of Ipswich, who still survives him,
