Genus Vespertilio (p. 35).
[Add on p. 37: Vespertilio murinus. Mouse-coloured Bat.
Mr. E. Newman says (Field, March 14th, 1874, p. 263) that, many
years ago, Doubleday shot at Epping a Bat which he believed to be of
this species, after watching it on the wing for some time ; but, unfortu-
nately, the specimen, though searched for diligently at the place where it
fell after being shot, could not be found.]

Add on p. 86 : A careful description of a male specimen taken
in Epping Forest was communicated by Mr. G. A. Boulenger to The
Essex Naturalist in 1896 (vol. ix., p. 81).
Genus Rana (p. 86).
Rana temporaria, Common Frog.
Add on p. 86 : Mr. William Cole states (in litt.) that, so far as he
has been able to discover, it does not occur on Mersea Island.
Genus Orcynus (p. 92).
Orcynus thynnus. Common Tunny.
Add on p. 92 : In The Essex County Chronicle of Oct. 26th,
1897, Mr. H. L. Matthams records the finding of a big fish on the
shore at Foulness on the 20th of that month. It was perfectly
fresh, measured nine feet in length, and weighed about five or six
