He also has stated in a letter to me that, about forty years ago, a large fish of probably the same species came ashore in the same island (see also Zoologist, 1897, p. 579). Genus Motella (p. 100). Add on p. 100: Motella tricirrata, Gmel. Three-Bearded Rock Ling. This has been taken in the River Blackwater by Mr. E. A. Fitch. Genus Solea (p. 102). Add on p. 102 : Solea lascaris, Risso. Lemon, or Sand, Sole. An Essex specimen of this fish is preserved at the Marine Biological Station of the Essex County Council at Brightlingsea. Add on p. 102: Solea lutea, Benap. Little, or Red, Sole. A specimen of this fish—the Solonette of Couch (Fishes of British Isles, vol. iii., p. 207)—exists also at the Marine Biological Station at Brightlingsea.
