4 parties of school children, who come here to visualise the birds, beasts and plants which they are likely to meet with in the surrounding woodlands. The object of the Museum is to present to visitors who may be strangers to the district, the wild life, both animal and vegetable, of the Forest, the character of the geology which determines its surface configuration, and something of its history in both prehistoric and more recent times, THE STAIRCASE. On the walls are arranged various maps of the Forest district, including a copy of the official map of the Forest, which serve to give visitors an idea of the present extent of this national playground of The Staircase. 6,000 acres ; and a large ordnance map, to a scale of six inches to the mile, of the entire area covered by Epping and Hainault Forests. There is also a geological map of the County of Essex.
