DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF FRONTISPIECE. I.—Badhamia foliicola Lister; group of sporangia on oak leaf. This species was first recognized as a distinct species from specimens obtained in Wanstead Park, Essex, September 1896. 1a.—Sporangia, stalked and sessile, on grass. 1b.—Part of network of capillitium, and spores. 1c.-Spore, more highly magnified. 2.—Badhamia populina Lister ; group of sporangia, on poplar bark. This species Was first found on a wood-pile in Wal- thamstow, Essex, in June 1899. 2a.—Two clusters of spores. 2b.—Spores magnified, showing ridges on the walls where dehiscence Would take place. . 3.—Comatricha fimbriata G. Lister and Cran ; group of sporan- gia on piece of bramble stem ; from four the spores have been shed. This species was first found in Wanstead Park, Essex, in November 1913. 3a.—Sporangium from which the spores have been shed; the base of the stalk shows a reticulated structure. 3b.—Capillitium and apex of stalk. 3c.—Spore showing a smooth patch where dehiscence would occur.
