The first prize is £50.00 plus a certificate, while letters of commendation will be given to the next two best entries. Entries, including an outline of the project and further enquiries should be sent to C.A. Osborne. 13 Parndon House, Valley Hill, Loughton. UPMINSTER WINDMILL OPENING The Hornchurch and District Historical Society is to open the windmill at Upminster to the public in May 1972 as part of the Havering contribution to the Festivals of London. The mill was closed all last summer for repairs, and is still without two of its sails (which will be replaced later in the spring). A considerable amount of woodwork has been replaced, the exterior of the building painted and the interior all treated with anti-woodworm and dry-rot chemicals. Upminster Windmill is the finest smock mill in South-East England, — not a difficult claim to live up to as there are not many of them left in good repair. Times of opening will be Saturday, 6th May, 2.00p.m. to 5.30p.m. and Sunday 7th May, 11.00a.m. to 5.30p.m. There is ample parking space, but visitors are advised to come early as only a limited number are allowed in the building at a time.
