The Restless Earth by Nigel Calder. BBC 1972 £1.90
Of the books I have bought recently, without doubt
the most inspiring and though provoking has been the
recent BBC publication, "The Restless Earth".
While making the TV programme of the same name, Nigel
Calder travelled the World, talking to earth scientists
and visiting many spectacular regions to bring to public
attention the exciting new knowledge and understanding of
the history of the Earth. He explains the configuration of
the continents, the reasons for earthquakes and volcanos,
and points the way to possible control of these forces.
He shows how we are using up the resources of the earth at
a rate faster than they can be made naturally, the lucid
text being supplemented by very good diagrams and colour
illustrations.
SUMMER EXHIBITIONS
The Club hopes to put on several displays in
conjunction with the Essex Naturalists' Trust during the
comming summer. Volunteers are needed to help with
preparation of material, transport to sites of shows and
manning of the exhibitions. Anyone interested is invited
to contact the Secretary: Ron Allen as soon as possible.
