The weather had changed to drought conditions and only a couple of dozen specimens were found. After assembling in the rain in the Car Park at Writtle Green we explored most of the footpaths between Writtle village and Chelmsford Town including Lawford Lane which probably dates back to medieval times. This narrow stretch only several fields wide either side of the rivers Wid and Can, is threatened by the A12 Chelmsford 3ypass.
