Sunday 27th January 1974. 27 members of the Club and the Young Ornithologists Club assembled in the two car parks at Foxburrows Lane, Hainault Forest. Having sorted ouuselves out we proceeded around Hainault Lake and noted Pochard and Great Crested Grebe amongst the many wildfowl there. Walking through the Forest towards Lambourne End we distinguished the calls of several tits and a Nuthatch and watched a Tree Creeper ascending its tree. Lunch was had at Lambourne End in the only rain of the day, but here we saw our only Green Woodpeckers which are generally fairly abundant in the Forest. Along the road to Lambourne Village and onto the public footpath leading to the early Norman Lambourne Parish Church. Reaching Abridge, time prevented a visit to the River Roding, so we proceeded east at New Farm and followed the footpath Page 28
