Page-19- Recorders recording? I Often wondered whether our recorders ever sent records of woldlife outside their speciality to other recorders. To prove that they do Dr, Adams (recorder for plants) sent in the following: - Young frogs plentiful over a wide area, Oak Hill Ponds area Nr. Napier Arms TQ(51)3991, 11.7.70, - Vast numbers of young frogs on the hill slopes rising south from Baldwins Hill pond, and in the woodland nearby. TQ (51)4297 - Young rather friendly weasel present at the same time. Bob Cowlin (Essex badger recorder) was recently contem- plating sending in a plant record - though I am not sure whether he did. The frog records have been sent to our amphibian recorder G. Malenoir at 55 Pettits Lane, Romford, Essex. If you have a frog in your garden pond, you may like to pass the information on. Frogs are not too common these days. N.B. Frogs are usually green, rather thin looking with long back legs and rather loose smooth skin. Toads are usually some shade of brown, decidedly plump, with shorter back legs and a pimply or warty skin. Frogs jump but toads much prefer to walk or crawl. Incidentally toads, though much the more common are just as under recorded. Ron Allen. P.S, Yes, there is truth in the above, I found Bee Orchids growing on a badger spoil, but as it was in Cambridgeshire, Bob Cowlin.
