GEOLOGY GROUP - ANNUAL REPORT 1974 In spite of the various difficulties that befell us during the past Year, we can once again state that success favoured us in all our activities. This success was especially noticeable in our Field visits, and some interesting trips were arranged. The South Coast seemed to be the centre of our activities with the Isle of Wight being the venue for the Group's weekend over the Spring Bank Holiday. Although the party was smaller than in the past, it was well supported with about 14 Members attending. For those that did brave the sea crossing, they had the chance to see a wide and varied range of rocks, some of which are only to be found on the Island. This Southern influence again predominated, the other field trips being to Folkeston and Hastings. In concluding, we must record our thanks to the leaders. Without their knowledge and co-operation, the trips would not have been possible. Ron Coates MAMMAL GROUP ANNUAL REPORT 1974 The group held five meetings, excluding the AGM, during the year. The majority of these were trapping meetings to obtain further information on the distribution of mammals in the county. A joint trapping meeting was held on the 10th November with the Colchester and Witham Natural History Societies at Horksley. A point of interest was the trapping of a house mouse (Mus musculus) a long way from any buildings. On the 25th January Don Chapman gave a lecture on British Deer at Broomfield, to which members of the East Anglian branch of the British Deer Society were invited.
