Serotine feed more on beetles than anything else. Usually all bats feed at night, although during the winter on a warm day, it is possible to see Pipistrelles and sometimes other species feeding on the flies which comes out to make the most of the warmth. THE ESSEX BAT SURVEY During this coming winter I hope to start a survey of bats in Essex. This will involve visiting buildings throughout the county so that an idea of the distribution of species of bat occurring can be obtained, As the BBC's "Survivors" isn't running at the moment I'm sure you will all have nothing to do at 8 pm on Wednesday 15th December! So, why not comes along to the Broomfield Education Centre and look at and listen to a colour slide show and talk on British bats? On top of all this there will be live bats (and dead bats), a bat detector and other rabid goodies. a more serious note it is also the night when I'll be discussing the bat survey withwith any luck starting it.
