15. TWO INTERESTING BIRD RECORDS FOR 1976 1. 24th August 1976; at about 9.30 a.m., the day before I was due to go on holiday, I noticed in the front garden of 14 Ridgeway, Ingatestone, a Wryneck. This bird was also seen subsequently in other peoples' gardens. The Wryneck does turn up at this time of the year during the Autumn Migration, as a breeding bird, but it is now very rare indeed. 2. Mrs I. Buchan of 129 Drysdale Avenue, Chingford, wrote to me in the Autumn reporting that she and her husband were walking in the Hawkwood House, Yardley Lane, area (Map ref. TQ 384.956) on 3rd October 1976 when they saw a pair of Golden Orioles. These records are awaiting recognition by the Rareties Committee. The Golden Oriole is a bird that has been reported breeding in parts of Eastern England and they do occur as irregular migrants. M. T. Parker NEW BIRD GROUP We are very pleased to announce that Ian Misselbrook and Michael Parker are starting an ornithology group in the Club. The Group will continue the very popular general bird rambles but will also organise more serious bird studies. The inaugural meeting of the Group will be held on 2nd April 1977 at the Broom- field Education Centre, Chelmsford, with a talk on Essex birds including tape recordings along with a discussion on group activities. More details from Ian Misselbrook, 5 Domsey Cottages, Gt. Domsey Farm, Feering, Nr. Colchester, Essex.
