27 REPORTS OF MEETINGS EPPING LOWER FOREST - 24th APRIL 1977 Over 50 members and friends met at North Weald Station on a fine but breezy and cool morning. Greenfinches and Robins were notable birds present in numbers. Summer migrants in full song were Chiff Chaff, Willow Warbler and a few Black Caps. During the lunch break Swallows were seen collecting mud as nesting material. This part of Epping Forest consists mainly of Hornbeam, Oak, Holly and Hawthorn. The pollarded Hornbeam provides ideal habitats for the Tree Creepers and Nuthatches. Although one part of the Forest ought to provide a suitable habitat for Nightin- gales, none were heard. We did however see a Great Spotted Woodpecker. At the end of the day 29 different species of birds had been seen or heard, and excellent total for the Ornithological Group's first meeting in 1977. A list of the Birds seen has been sent to the Epping Forest Conservation Centre. M. T. Parker Nuthatch
