THE ESSEX NATURALIST - the journal of the Essex Field Club (Published in 33 volumes from 1867 - 1976. ISSN 0071-1489) for ninety years this journal was the most important publication on Essex natural history, geology and antiquities. A wealth of information is contained in the 33 volumes and these are vital reference works for anyone interested in Essex. Complete sets of the original editions are no longer available (and command very high prices on the second-hand market). However, many volumes (including the early ones) are still available in small numbers. If you already have some volumes now is the time to complete or extend your set. Apart from the final volume, each volume consists of a number of parts totalling at least 200 pages (average 300) plus an index and title page. Volume 33 has only 162 pages and an index and title page has not been published. The role of this journal has now been taken over by the new 'Essex Naturalist Series' of separately numbered volumes.
