27. On our way back to the cars at about 4 p.m. we saw some Swallows, heard Dunnock and Robin uttering their clear songs. By this time the sun was shining brilliantly making the drive home very pleasant. At the end of the meeting a count was made of the birds seen and the total was 34. M. T. PARKER ---oOo--- CHILDRENS DAY AT OAKLANDS PARK, 2nd December It was a fine crisp frosty day when we met to "have fun with trees" in Oaklands Park. We split into two groups and wandered through the grounds discovering the different bark rubbings and collecting leaves and seeds. We met at the museum to display our finds and have lunch. While one group did leaf rubbings the others looked around the museum and, all were able to make attractive Christmas cards from good quality Turkey oak leaves and with drawings of stuffed animals and birds. We noticed although there were lots of acorns and holly berries there weren't many pine cones or beech masts. We also learned the names of twenty trees between us. We had a very enjoyable and busy day. JEAN JOHNSON JULIAN SCOTT ---oOo---
