11. THE BIRDS OF WANSTEAD PARK AND AREA The 1978 report of this title is now available from the Wren Conservation Group at 597a Barking Road, Plaistow, London E13 9EZ. A systematic list of birds recorded during the year is given with comments on status and breeding success. There is also an analysis of the birds recorded since 1975, a detailed analysis of waterbird numbers in the area, a summary of birds ringed in the area and comments on the weather and its effects on the birds in the study area during 1978. At a mere 50p plus 20p post and packing it is a must for anyone visiting the Wanstead area, and there is the added pleasure of knowing that what little profit is made from sales of the report will go towards further involvement of young people from East London in wildlife conservation. EMMISON (l976): ELIZABETHAN LIFE, HOME, WORK AND LAND (p3l8)* the Dedham Court Leet bye law of c. 1575 referring to "beaver pits" and, apparently, to the control of the pollution of streams by beaver's mud. *Published by Essex County Council, Essex Record Office Publication No. 69.
