25. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Dear Mr. Allen, Re Letters to the Editor, Bulletin No. 20 from Mr. G. Weedon. I too have Magpies at the bottom of the garden who congregated in February. This year nine held a meeting for one day then left. One pair stayed to rear their young in the same tree which has been used for thirteen years to my knowledge. I hope to obtain the date of further assemblies should they take place. Another unusual event, witnessed in July, Common Seagulls were hovering over the garden, one dived like a hawk into the cabbage patch carrying off a live mouse in its beak. I know Seagulls take scraps from open areas but have never seen them take from thick foliage. F. G. HARVEY 42 Brock Hill Wickford
