20 I intend to remain a member out of appreciation of the past, but do not contemplate a visit to Essex very often in the near future. So you will have to note my address. Again, my thanks, my best wishes and kindest regards to you all. Frank C. Smith 'Smithy's Batch' 2 Hood Close, Glastonbury, BA6 8ES. Map Ref. ST 504 384 AN INTERESTING RINGING RECOVERY I was handed a bird ring by a member who lives in Ingatestone. The bird was in a poor condition, and identity was either a Thrust or a Blackbird. The ring was sent to B.T.O., Beech Grove, Tring on 3rd March, 1982. I have now received full records of the bird:- Species - Blackbird. Age 1 year. Male. Ringed 27th October 198l at Kroonspolders Vlieland, The Netherlands. It is interesting to notice from this that BLACKBIRDS do migrate; and that Blackbirds seen in one's garden may have travelled quite long distances. If anyone finds a ring on a dead bird it should be sent to:- British Trust for Ornithology, Beech Grove, Tring, Herts, HP23 5NR. M. T. Parker
