To comply with factory regulations and to avoid
silicosis, an air-extractor fan was installed,
with a nozzle over each work position, but "it
was not often used". The maximum daily output
per man, including quartering, was 1500.
The flakes when completed were packed into canvas 
bags (in her young days by Miss Dent, now married 
and living in Suffolk), and 8000 went to a barrel.
They were counted in fives and sixties (possibly
related to a most ancient computation system -
pre-Sumerian perhaps). The "sixties" were call
"hundreds" and a true thousand were a "mille".
