The second Botany Group Meeting of 1984 took place
at Garnett's Wood, Barnston on Sunday, 6th May.
Garnett's Wood is an Essex County Council Access
Woodland, and this was the Field Club's first
visit there, as far as anyone can remember.
Before the ECC took over the wood, it was
extremely dark and overgrown, and much used by
travellers for dumping rubbish.
The wood is now being opened out, by coppicing and
some felling. This is being done on a rotational
