46 Wood Sorrel (Oxalis acetosella); Thyme-leaved Speedwell (Veronica serpyllifolia). Almost in flower was Common Wintercress (Barbarea vulgaris) and the leaves of Twayblade (Listera ovata) were seen. PAM JERMYN BIRD GROUP MEETING AT THORNDON PARK -- 29th April 1984 Sixteen Members enjoyed a walk from the Lion Gate to Childerditch pond on a bright sunny, but fresh day, which served to confirm that many migrants were late in arriving this year. Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler and House Martins were the only ones found in a rather disappointing count of only 20 species which otherwise included a pair of nesting Canada Geese and Grey Heron in addition to the common woodland residents. Unusually a Sparrowhawk was said to be nesting just outside the park and Firecrests had been seen passing through during the week but these eluded us; the party did however, see their first Orangetip butterfly of the year and Wild Cherry was in full bloom along the open rides through the woods.
