FLEAS IN ESSEX
Most cat and dog owners will, at some stage, have
encountered one or more fleas. Some may even have
been bitten by them. Others among us may be much
less likely to encounter fleas unless actively
seeking them out, but may have heard about fleas
carried by hedgehogs "because they can't scratch"
(not altogether true, actually,). Fleas have
permeated folklore, literature and art, and there
are two essential things that one finds out when
