40 A flock of around 20 White-fronted Geese were feeding in a nearby arable field and two Golden Plover flew over. After lunch most members travelled to Salcot for a quick look at Old Hall Marshes. Three more species of duck, Red-breasted Merganser, Shelduck and Eider were added to the day's tally and a rare sighting for the Blackwater was a flock of 30 Knot. Other interesting species included a ring tail Hen Harrier, Grey Plover, and 2,000 Brent Geese. Twite flitted among the sea walls and a Woodcock in full flight across the marshes was an unusual bird for this habitat. Altogether 57 species of bird were encountered - a good total for four hours' birdwatching IAN MISSELBROOK
