Telephone Chelmsford 361475 GENERAL MEETING, EPPING FOREST WALK, 24th April, 1985 Sixteen of us met at Chingford Station at 11 a.m. parked our cars in the road opposite, walked west along the horse ride beside the golf course, where a male kestrel hovered, to the top of Pole Hill, to enjoy its panoramic views of the Thames and Lea valleys. One of our party was particularly interested in insects - we didn't find many. Andrew Snelling hunted myxomycetes and it was gratifying that we soon came across what I know as 'bread sauce fungus'. Andrew demonstrated that this was no fungus, fixed and feeding on the tree, but a conglomerate, moveable body thought to feed on bacteria.
