Surprisingly, records from just north of Southend area are sparse. Meadow Grasshopper (Chorthippus parallelus) A common species in Essex, but, along with other Orthoptera, sparsely recorded in the north-west of our county. No doubt this grasshopper is reasonably abundant in most areas, so recording for this species should be concentrated in the north-west. It prefers a lush grassland but can also be found in quite dry areas where one would also expect to find C. brunneus.
