These are the first British records of this moth since 1915. Up to that time it had been a scarce resident in the eastern counties, the last Essex record having been in 1911. Apamea lateritia (Hufn.) Scarce Brindle 23 Dovercourt, 24 July 1985 (Bretherton and Chalmers- Hunt, 1986). The fourth British and first Essex record of this continental species; recorded by MEA and PS, the identification was confirmed by BS from a colour transparency.
