29 At the Annual General Meeting in March, Col. Maitland Emmet retired as President and gave his Presidential address 'Essex Lepidop- terists'. Two new Ordinary Members of Council were elected, Mrs. Maureen Tollfree and Mr. David Scott: Mr. Martin Henry and Mr. Peter Leswell, standing down after three years' service. In July Dr. Fiona Hughes took over the position of Meetings Secretary. As Mrs. Kate Rowland moved away from Essex, we were pleased to welcome Mr. Peter Harvey as our new Spider Recorder. In the summer, the Club purchased a PC1512 Amstrad Word Processor. As well as being used for general correspondence and the Bulletin, it will be used to produce the Naturalist, thus helping to keep costs down, and will save many hours typing envelopes. Two issues of the Bulletin were published during the year, edited by Mr. Tony Boniface, the second being produced on the word processor. A total of 24 meetings were held during 1987. Two of the General Meetings were talks given by Mr. B. Harley on 'The Making of a Natural History Book' and Mr. P. Gotham about Snettisham Reserve. Outdoor General Meetings included a visit to the water treatment works at Chigwell, the red squirrel count and watching stone curlews in Thetford Forest, dating hedgerows at the River Roding Reserve, visiting Wat Tyler Park and Pitsea Marshes for dragonflies, a visit to Daws Hall Nature Reserve and to Wrabness, and the annual Fungus
